Welcome to taipingdaoism.com (the “Site”), operated by Taiping Dao (“we,” “us,” or “our”). These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the Site. By accessing or using the Site, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the Site.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By visiting, browsing, reading articles, subscribing to a newsletter, or otherwise using the Site, you represent that you are at least 16 years of age and you agree to comply with and be bound by these Terms. If you are using the Site on behalf of an organisation, you represent that you have authority to bind that organisation to these Terms.

We reserve the right to revise or amend these Terms at any time. Continued use of the Site after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms. Material changes will be indicated by updating the “Last updated” date above.

2. Nature of the Site

The Site is an educational and informational resource focused on the history, philosophy, and traditions of Taiping Daoism and related Daoist lineages. It is intended for general knowledge, cultural study, and personal interest.

The Site is not a religious institution, a practising temple, a medical provider, or a professional advisory service. Nothing on the Site constitutes , and should not be relied upon as, medical advice, a diagnosis, a treatment recommendation, legal counsel, financial advice, or a substitute for guidance from a qualified practitioner, physician, or spiritual teacher.

Content related to health cultivation (養生), Daoist medicine, breathwork, alchemy, and related practices is presented for historical and educational context only. You are solely responsible for consulting appropriate qualified professionals before undertaking any physical, dietary, or wellness practice.

3. Intellectual Property

Unless otherwise stated:

  • All text, articles, translations, commentary, imagery, graphics, and other content on the Site (collectively, the “Content”) are the intellectual property of Taiping Dao or its licensors, and are protected by applicable copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.
  • Quotations from the Daodejing (道德經), Taiping Jing (太平經), and other classical Chinese texts are in the public domain and are used here for educational commentary.
  • Chinese characters used as decorative or illustrative elements are part of the Site’s design.

You may:

  • Read, browse, and reference the Content for personal, non-commercial purposes
  • Share links to the Site
  • Quote short passages with clear attribution to taipingdaoism.com

You may not, without prior written consent from us:

  • Reproduce, redistribute, republish, or create derivative works from the Content
  • Use the Site’s name, logo, or branding in a way that implies endorsement
  • Scrape, mine, or systematically extract Content
  • Remove or alter any copyright notices, watermarks, or attribution
  • Use the Content in any commercial product, publication, or service

4. User Conduct

We reserve the right to restrict, suspend, or terminate access to the Site for any user who breaches these Terms.

5. User-Generated Content

If the Site enables comments, forum posts, or other user submissions (collectively, “User Content”), you represent and warrant that:

  • You have the legal right to post the User Content
  • The User Content does not infringe any third-party rights
  • The User Content is not defamatory, obscene, unlawful, or harmful

By posting User Content, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual, and irrevocable licence to use, reproduce, modify, and display that content in connection with the Site. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL TAIPING DAO, ITS OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, CONTRACTORS, OR AFFILIATES BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA, OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH:

  • YOUR ACCESS TO, USE OF, OR INABILITY TO USE THE SITE
  • ANY CONTENT ACCESSED THROUGH THE SITE
  • ANY RELIANCE ON INFORMATION OBTAINED FROM THE SITE
  • ANY PHYSICAL PRACTICE, CULVITATION EXERCISE, DIETARY REGIME, OR MEDICAL DECISION BASED ON SITE CONTENT
  • ANY THIRD-PARTY ACTIONS OR OMISSIONS

IN NO EVENT SHALL OUR AGGREGATE LIABILITY ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THE SITE EXCEED THE AMOUNT OF ONE DOLLAR OR THE MAXIMUM AMOUNT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, WHICHEVER IS GREATER.

SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW THE EXCLUSION OR LIMITATION OF CERTAIN WARRANTIES OR LIABILITIES, SO THE ABOVE LIMITATIONS MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Taiping Dao and its officers, employees, and agents from and against any and all claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising out of or in any way connected with:

  • Your use of or access to the Site
  • Your breach of these Terms
  • Your infringement of any third-party right
  • Any User Content you submit

12. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

These Terms and any disputes arising from them shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Singapore without regard to its conflict-of-law principles. Any legal proceedings shall be brought exclusively in the courts of Singapore.

13. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is held to be invalid, illegal, or unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction, that provision shall be severed, and the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect. The invalid provision shall be replaced to the extent possible with a valid provision that most closely reflects the original intent.

14. Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Taiping Dao, with respect to your use of the Site and supersede all prior or contemporaneous agreements, representations, or understandings.
